Compensatory and Body Shaping Exercises

The course is focusing the techniques of exercising both using exercise equipment and without, to gain practical as well as theoretical knowledge for the creation of one's own exercise plan focused mainly on the development of strength and abilities combining strength and speed, and strength and endurance with respect to health impact of body building and compensatory exercise. Compensatory exercises as preventive measures after the healing of acute or chronic diseases of the locomotive system (as a consequence of one-sided overstrain or injury while doing a sport) are part of the subject. In this subject is also discussed issues of organization and operation of facilities providing services in the field of fitness.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student acquires the knowledge and skills from a complex of movement activities focused on compensatory and body shaping exercises and strengthening exercises for fitness. Students will get an overview of the correct functioning of the body, about the configuration of the correct exercise technique, about discovering mistakes during exercise and their correction, and about the construction and function of basic machines and equipment in a gym.

Prerequisites

The course is based on the knowledge of biology of human body, and body work.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Kritéria pro udělení klasifikovaného zápočtu:
1. 80% active presence in classes = 20 points
- training classes consist of 4 two-hour-blocks, i.e. 20% = 1 block is permitted to miss (every other missed block = minus 7 points)

2. Essay = 20 points
- handed in until the 6th of December 2012
- topic: the analysis of the fitness center (localization, set-up, services, positives/negatives, your suggestions)
- page limit - 5 numbered pages of body text max = number of pages excluding title, contents, supplements and literature sources
- essay structure: title, contents, objective, body text - analysis + your potential suggestions, summary, literature
- the title contains: title of the essay, author's name, faculty, study program, course, year of study, academic year
- supplements - e.g. fotographs, certificates, price list, etc.

3. Written test = 38 points
- 19 items a-b-c type, single choice
- correct answer = 2 points
- incorrect or no answer minus = 1 bod

4. Practical part = 22 points(1 muscle group = 11 points)
- explanation and demonstration of the excercise(s) for two muscle groups (each student will cast lots) = the choice of appropriate equipment, explanation of safety issues including correct procedure, pointing out the potential mistakes
- 2 students are tested, other 2 students are preparing
- the maximum time for the exam of 1 student is 10 minuts

- Nutrition - the basics of good nutrition, sports nutrition, bodybuilding nutrition, nutritional supplements, doping

- Creating an exercise plan, exercise plans for different groups of trainees (beginner, advanced, children, seniors, athletes ...)

Aims

The aim of the subject is to learn the techniques of exercising both using exercise equipment and without, to gain practical as well as theoretical knowledge for the creation of one's own exercise plan focused mainly on the development of strength and abilities combining strength and speed, and strength and endurance with respect to health impact of body building and compensatory exercises.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Active participation in practical lessons. Continuous preparation for the practical lessons. The knowledge of the problem discussed in previous class. Written test in the end of the course. Any absence requires an official letter giving the reason for absence - substitution for the tuition missed in the case of more than one duly excused absence.
