Information about competitors

The subject is focused on gaining the information about the competition by legal and ethic way. The adoption of analytical process of gained information is the emphasis in this course together with process of gaining the added value – the new awareness about the competition.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The aim is to enable students to understand the issues of information systems which are necessary to gather information about competitors and equip students with skills for obtaining legal information about competitors and their subsequent evaluation.

Prerequisites

The knowledge of organization and managerial functions of firms (basic level), the knowledge of work with PC and Internet (basic level).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures consist of an explanation of basic principles, methodology of the discipline, problems and their solutions.
Exercises promote the practical mastery of subject presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for passing an exam: Knowledge of taught topics and their practical application.

1. Information on the competitive environment - The importance of information on the competitive environment for the senior management of the organization, The concept of information, Basic concepts: symptoms, data, functions, evidence, arguments, hypotheses news.
2. Determining the necessary information for senior management organization - Analysis of the problém, Determination of IQ, Determination KIT: strategic decisions and actions suggestions for early warning, profiles and descriptions of key players.
3. Sources of data and information - The distribution of sources of data and information, Conventional sources of data and information,
Electronic resources data and information, Intelligence Map, Act intelligence antennas, Act attenuation effect.
4. The methods of obtaining data and information - Phase collecting data and information, Traditional methods for collecting data and information, Software tools for data collection and information.
5. Processing of data and information: Processing of data and information - determine the reliability of sources of information, the importance of the information for the organization, determining the veracity of the information, Storing data and information.
6. Misinformation - Definition of misinformation, Types of misinformation, Rumor.
7. Misinformation - Identification of misinformation, Analysis of misinformation.
8. Weather eighth competitor reactions - Reactive approach, Late approach, Convenient access, Proactive access, Determination of reaction competitor.
9. Trade secrets Organization - Definition according to applicable legislation, Principles of trade secret protection organization, Principles of trade secret protection organization, Secrecy activities in the organization.
10. Ethics Competitive Intelligence - Reasons observance of ethics in the process of Competitive Intelligence, Fuld Code of Ethics Competitive Intelligence, SCIP Code of Ethics Competitive Intelligence, Harm Rule.

The understanding of information systems dilemma necessary for gaining the information about competition and prove students with knowledge of legal competitive information gathering.
