The paper shows possibilities of nonlinear fracture mechanics simulation to capture results of uniaxial tension experiments and discuss problematic aspects of modelling. The occurrence of secondary flexure is a fundamental problem studied experimentally by Akita et al. (2005) at Tohoku Institute of Technology, Japan. The virtual numerical simulation of those experiments eliminating/leaving secondary flexure was performed.

The paper shows possibilities of nonlinear fracture mechanics simulation to capture results of uniaxial tension experiments and discuss problematic aspects of modelling. The occurrence of secondary flexure is a fundamental problem studied experimentally by Akita et al. (2005) at Tohoku Institute of Technology, Japan.
