Seismic response analysis of a large industrial waste-heat horizontal boiler structure with a stack is described. The plant site is located in a region characterized by high-intensity earthquakes with a high earthquake occurrence probability. Seismic loads defined by local regulations are high. Consequently, advanced analysis using a sophisticated finite element model in conjuction with response spectrum method has been selected. The paper contains the description of the developed computation models, the procedure applied in the seismic response analysis and the conclusions for the detailed structure design.
