This contribution deals with the basic parameters of laser diodes (LDs) applied in a transmitting system of free – space link (FSL). Free – space link is a full duplex link that uses optical carrier wave in the atmospheric transmission medium, whose output power is concentrated to a narrow beam and which is designed for transmission of information with digital modulation (Intensity modulation / On – off keying – IM / OOK).
