The contribution deals with present progress in the field of air - conditioning used always more frequently in car passenger's cabins as a standard car component. The attention is focused on a refrigeration and air circuit of the air - conditioning equipment. An analysis is presented here of a refrigeration system operating with the refrigerant R134a and a perspective transcritical cycle using CO2 as a refrigerant. The contribution also deals with the design of some components of a transcritical refrigeration system, i.e. a compressor, gas cooler, evaporator and an internal heat exchanger.
