The paper describes an experimental programme for studying the fatigue performance of internal GFRP reinforcement, as initiated by the authors. The bars were encased in concrete to allow anchoring of samples, and to provide the concrete environment. The samples were axially loaded at a frequency of 4 Hz under a constant stress ratio of 0.1. Two types of GFRP bars have been used to date: sand-coated bars with an epoxy matrix, and ribbed bars with a vinyl ester matrix. The S-N curve was created for the sand-coated bars throughout its recommended range, i.e. from roughly 1000 cycles to two million cycles. The results obtained from the tests of sand-coated bars encased in concrete are comparable with other presented studies. Thermocouples fixed at the surface of the GFRP bars allowed for the measurement of temperature during loading.
