The paper concerns a novel method which allows us to perform the discrete-time wavelet transform of a signal segment-by-segment, i.e. also in real time. In this sense the method corresponds with overlap-add and overlap-save methods used in classical Fourier-type signal filtering. The principle of the method and some of its properties are introduced in the paper.
