The Czech MV compensated networks operated by distribution system operator E.ON are not switched off immediately in the case of earth fault. In such cases, there is real risk of hazard voltages around faulty place. Therefore automatic for additional earthing of faulty phase is installed under pilot project in one supply substation 22kV. This automatic can be also used for short-time connection (100 ms) of healthy phase to earthing system of supply substation that leads to double line-to-earth short circuit which increase level of fault current to value which is sufficient for calculation of the fault distance by fault locator installed in outgoing feeder. As performed field tests showed, this operation can caused high overvoltage up to 200 % of operation voltage, therefore the paper gives the recommendation for choosing of the healthy phase for minimizing the overvoltage during this location technique.
