The tightening of legislative requirements for thermal protection of buildings also supports the development in the field of traditional building materials, including fired ceramics. The way to improve the thermal insulation properties of modern brick fittings passes through a maximum reduction of bulk density. For maintaining sufficient mechanical strength is required an optimal mass distribution over the cross section of fitting. However the current knowledge shows that even optimized shape is not enough to meet the thermal insulating properties of masonry structures in low-energy and passive standard. Therefore, it appears advantageous to fill the hollows of fitting by thermal insulating material. This study presents results of the finite elements method based computational optimization of the shape and internal arrangement of brick fitting with filled hollows by using different kinds of commonly used thermal insulating materials and with newly developed material made from waste polyester fibers.
