Pracuje s obecnějším typem výrobního procesu, používá jiného matematického aparátu a vede k lepším výsledkům.

The paper deals with the optimization of the sum of setup a storage costs in a multistage production system with infinite horizon by the lot sizes choice. It is assumed that the production stages are arranged in series, the rates of production at various stages are finite, constant and generally different and the output of final product is constant and continuous; moreover, at each stage of the process, the periods of production and non-production are periodically alternated. An exact algorithm to solve the problem can be constructed on the basis of dynamic programming, where the state variable is the lot size at the current production stage while the control variable is the ration of lot sizes at the immediately following stage to that at the current stage. To increase the efficiency of the algorithm a heuristic reduction of the set of feasible control variables is proposed such that the et after reduction consists of maximally three elements. The reduction is performed in such a way that the resulting policy of the process is close to certain modification of the "continuous" policy of the process derived by the dynamic programming and giving the lower bound of the optimal costs of the process. Experiments show the proximity of the heuristic solution to the exact one even in the cases where the process consists of a relatively large number of stages. In 90% of production processes considered the heuristic solution gave the same amount of costs as the exact one. The mean error does not exceed 3.2% of optimal costs. Unlike the "system myopic policy" due to Schwarz and Schrange, our heuristic policy also allows for the cases where the production rate and/or the lot size at the current production stage can be less than that at the immediately following stage. Apart form these generalization the upper and lower limits for the lot sizes are also allowed in this paper, which is not the case in the former studies of Schwarz and Schrage or Crowston, Wagner and Williams.
