The goal of this paper is to introduce the running national project referred to as AWSN (Adaptive Wireless Sensor Network for Crisis Management with Data Visualization - No.FRTI2/ 571) and its continuous results. The state of research covers the investigation of nowadays snow sensors. Also the communication architecture standing on the Zigbee PRO stack is outlined together with the description of the Zigbee Sensor Unit already developed as the part of the project.
