Acoustic Emission is one of the nondestructive techniques that experienced great progress during the last twenty years and still holding its significant position among other non-destructive evaluation techniques. It is used mainly to localize crack in solid materials, especially in non-metallic ones which are mechanically stressed. During the material deformation (when a crack is generated) the electric charges are appearing at the faces of the cracks. The electric dipole system then becomes a source of voltage induced on metal electrodes. The recorded electric signal consists of crack walls self vibration given by crack length and vibration due to an ultrasonic wave given by sample dimension. This entry describes the use of the acoustic emitted and electromagnetic emitted signals from used piezo-ceramic sensors in order to localize the position of the crack in the granite sample.
