The ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection structures act as a protection against the parasitic electrostatic discharge stresses in integrated circuits. The use of these structures provides better robustness against ESD stresses but also a number of secondary features, which degrades the circuit performance. These features are for example degradation of the bandwidth, bigger noise or lower gain. The ESD protections are based on regulator diodes or similar semiconductor variations that work in the area of non-destructive breakdown for discharging parasitic charge. It observes if is possible to set different characteristics of such structures by geometrical masks adjustments only during its production.
