The history of the Brno University of Technology (BUT) dates back to September 19, 1899, when the Austrian Emperor and Hungarian King Franz Joseph signed a decree establishing the Czech Technical University in Brno. Thus, in 2019, it celebrates the 120th anniversary of its founding, while the first Faculty of Civil Engineering is the oldest faculty of the BUT and in 2018 the second largest in terms of students number (in total 4025, thereof 1476 women and 703 foreign).
