This paper deals with the abilities of Eclipse to serve as a modular, graphical environment for heterogeneous modelling. The main focus lies on the application of XML technology in the area of modelling -- especially combined and heterogeneous modelling. Our investigation in this field has led into the project Japetus. It offers the ability of visual design of continuous, discrete, and also combined and heterogeneous models.
