The word „yoga” comes from Sanskrit word „yuj“, which means union or unification – unification of mind, body and soul. Usually in our daily life, our mind is uncontrolled, moving from one subject to another. We also have a problem to understand our body and use it with awareness. Due to daily busy and sometimes stressful life we forget to listen our soul – we keep forgetting to move the attention inside and listen what our soul wants to say - to listen what we really need, what we really want in our lives. In these lessons of yoga we will focus on unification - balancing - of our body, mind and soul. You will turn off your auto-pilot, calm yourself, be in the present moment and make your body stronger and more flexible.
We will practise mainly Hatha flow style of yoga within we learn correctly the basic postures. Hatha is very calming and stabilizing type of yoga, which is very good for strengthening muscles, because we will have to hold the position for a longer duration. Flow means, that the postures (asanas) flow fluently one to another. During all the lessons we will focus on a right breathing and some basic pranayama techniques (breathing techniques). You will also get in touch with easy forms of meditation or yoga nidra (yogic sleep). In the end of the semester we will move more towards Vinjasa style of yoga, which is more dynamic, but based on the same as Hatha yoga.

Correct practise of Hatha surya namaskar, basic asanas and pranayama techniques (full yogic breathing, anuloma viloma, ujjayi breath, kapalabhati), root lock, meditation and yoga nidra.

Prerekvizity

Basic knowledge about body and exercise. Clean comfortable clothes, yoga mat and towel.

Plánované vzdělávací činnosti a výukové metody

Students follow guidance of the teacher – visual demonstration and oral description. Teacher might give individual advices and adjust students into correct alignment during the lesson.

Způsob a kritéria hodnocení

Credits - active participation in the lessons, registration of attendance in the attendance sheets. Two unexcused absences are allowed.

Osnovy výuky

Each lesson of the course is based on the practice from previous lessons so students can slowly and progressively improve in yoga and thanks to the repetition they can really root the practice.
1. lesson: introduction (basic information, structure of the lessons), introduction to Hatha surya namaskar (sun salutation), introduction to yoga
2. lesson: Hatha surya namaskar, revision of previous lesson, new postures and introduction to breathing, sequence breathing, relaxation
3. lesson: full yogic breath, revision of previous lesson, new postures and yoga nidra
4. lesson: ujjayi breath, root lock, revision of previous lesson, new postures and meditation
5. lesson: kapalabhati, revision of previous lesson, new postures, relaxation
6. lesson: complete revision of all previous lessons with focus on details of alignment
7. lesson: kapalabhati resumption, revision of previous lesson, new postures, yoga nidra
8. lesson: anuloma viloma, revision of previous lesson, new postures, introduction to vinyasa, meditation
9. lesson: anuloma viloma resumption, revision of previous lesson, new postures, vinyasa sequence with focus on core strengthening, meditation
10. lesson: pranayama techniques recapitulation, revision of previous lesson, new postures, vinyasa sequence with focus on balance
11. lesson: relaxing yoga lesson, meditation
12. lesson: complete revision of the practise with focus on right detail alignment, yoga nidra
Both beginners and more advanced practitioners can attend the course. Various different level variations of postures will be shown during the lessons so students can practise with the same sequence on different levels.

Učební cíle

The participant understands the basic meaning behind yoga exercise, knows the basic yoga postures, understand their correct alignment (how to be in the posture correctly) and right breathing and practise with awareness on the body parts, which are used in each posture. Also, knows how to prepare the body for exercise with the right warm up, mind calming techniques and breathing techniques.

Vymezení kontrolované výuky a způsob jejího provádění a formy nahrazování zameškané výuky

Lessons are held once a week; 12 teaching weeks in the semester; length of exercise lesson is 60 minutes. Missed lessons can be compensated after the agreement with the teacher.
