Tuition-related fees

By virtue of Section 58 of Act no. 111/1998 Coll. (the University Act), universities may charge tuition-related fees. The current rate of a tuition-related fee is given by a basic amount set by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports.

Admission fee

An admission fee may amount to 20 percent of the basic amount pursuant to Section 58, Paragraph 1 of the University Act. Further details are stipulated by the BUT Statutes, Section 13, Paragraphs 1 to 4.

Study extension fee

A fee charged for extending the course of study is based on the University Act, Section 58, Paragraph 3 and BUT Statutes, Section 14, Paragraphs 1 to 3.

Study extension fee must be paid by a student whose actual length of study exceeds the standard length of study for the current programme by more than one year. This fee is set by the bursar for each commenced six-month period of study.

It must also be paid by a post-graduate student whose length of studies exceeds the standard study length of a post-graduate course.

  • the actual length of study is counted in days beginning on the date of enrolment
  • previous unsuccessful study of parts non-overlapping with the current study is counted towards the actual length of study
  • not included are lengths of suspended studies

Postgraduate study fee

A fee for post-graduate studies is charged pursuant to the University Act, Section 58, Paragraph 4 and BUT Statutes, Section 14, Paragraph 4.

A postgraduate fee must be paid by a postgraduate student of any non-follow-up degree programme. The fee is set by the bursar for the whole academic year.

For each academic year, the tuition-related fee rates are laid down by the Rector in a decision.

Tuition fee for a degree programme taught in a foreign language

For degree-programmes taught in a foreign language, tuition fees are charged pursuant to the University Act, Section 58, Paragraph 5 and BUT Statutes, Section 14, Paragraph 7. The actual amounts of such fees are laid down by the decisions of faculty deans or university institute directors.
