Profile

PhD study of Water Management and Water Structures study branch is focused on complex scientific training, methodology of independent research work and development of knowledge in this area of water management theory. Basic theoretical disciplines, such as mathematics, construction and applied physics, hydromechanics, hydrology, hydropedology, soil mechanics, water chemistry, water quality in a river basin and other subjects are presented. As technical applications there are mainly hydro-technical structures, hydro-amelioration structures, waterworks, waste water treatment, municipal drainage, water management systems, reconstruction of water supply piping network, restoration of water courses and reservoirs, waste in water management. Scientific preparation is based on knowledge of theoretical disciplines of natural sciences base together with theoretical and scientific disciplines of water management orientation. Graduate of PhD study is ready to work in research and development, using creative approach for problems solving and development of new methods in current water management and their application in construction of water management structures. PhD study is closely connected with scientific, research and development activities at training workplace and with technical practice. Continuous active scientific and pedagogical activity is a good condition for eventual qualification of graduates as academic employees at Universities.

  1. Analysis of the criteria for the assessment of internal erosion in soils

    In the framework of the solution a summary of published criteria for the evaluation of the occurrence of internal erosion in the soil will be summarized. Further on their comparison Will be done together with their critical evaluation. For selected types of internal erosion existing knowledge will be supplemented by own experimental research.

  2. Development and testing of cellulose separation technology from municipal wastewater.

    Main goal of the thesis is design, testing and pilot testing of technology for cellulose separation from wastewater followed by energetic utilization. Technology for cellulose separation from wastewater will be developed. Based on laboratory testing pilot plat will be developed and tested on selected municipal WWTP´s.

  3. Drinking Water Quality Changes in Water Distribution Network

    In the frame of the dissertation thesis solution, the case study of the public water supply system will monitor the dependence of selected indicators of drinking water quality on the hydraulic conditions in the pipeline. The subject of study will also be the perception of the quality of supplied water from the point of view of customers. The solution of the thesis will use methods of mathematical modelling and simulation and measurement of drinking water quality in the water supply network.

  4. Estimation of future sediment balace in river basis under uncertaity of climate change

    The aim of the PhD thesis will be a balancing rainfall runoff model, which will be able to runoff modeling in a long time period. Creating climate data sets based on actual outputs of GCM, RCM climate models and RCP scenarios. Estimating relationship between sedimentation and river flows. Based on future hydrological time series influenced by climate change this relationship creates an estimation of future sediment balance in the river basin.

  5. Evaluation of the effectiveness of adaptation measures in the river basin

    The effectiveness of adaptation measures is assessed in selected river basins in different geological and pedological areas.

  6. Flow parameters measuring in object of hydro-mechanical works with laser anemometry

    Get experiences in branch of plane and point laser anemometry for realization experiments at flow range. Enlargement range of given methods. Auton. realization measur., evaluation of velocity fields and their comparison with numerical model results.

  7. Formation and development of erosion rills in the sloping ground during the occurrence of heavy precipitation

    At selected locations of loess and Cambisol soils will be monitored by the formation and development of erosion rills. Measurement and evaluation of shape and volume changes of erosion rills will run after each erosion efficient heavy precipitation. The measured values will be statistically evaluated in the context of all causal factors.

  8. Micropolutans in drinking water sources and their removal possibilities

    The dissertation will focus on micropolutants in drinking water sources, especially pesticides and pharmaceuticals. In the course of the thesis the possibilities of removal of selected micropollutants in some water treatment processes will be monitored. The effectiveness of the micropolutants removal by the specific drinking water technology will be evaluated.

  9. Microwave pyrolysis of solid waste..

    Main goal of the thesis is evaluation of microwave pyrolysis of solid waste. Final product is oil, gas and Carbon. Work will be carried on pilot plant of microwave pyrolysis in AdMaS Centre. Work will be carried on in cooperation with faculty of chemistry and company BIONIC.

  10. Modelling the dam failure due to internal erosion

    In the solution model of dam failure due to internal erosion will be compiled. The inventory of existing practices Will be made, including the erosion characteristics. Soil erodibility will be verified by additional own experimental research. Identification of critical points in the dam body and the subsoil Will be done dor various dam types. Model of internal erosion and the development of a privileged flow paths will be compiled.

  11. Non-stationarity of hydrological time series

    Climate change gradually affects the Czech Republic. The question remains, whether this change is step or gradual change. The aim of the PhD thessis will be using analysis of non-stacionary processes identify and describe the temporal variability of hydrological processes and on this basis estimated the flow time series in the future.

  12. The Floating Treatment Islands for Elimination of Pollution in Water Reservoirs

    The floating islands are devices respectively. objects free-floating on the water surface and are planted with wetland vegetation. In foreign countries this technology is used to eliminate nutrients in the water, in the Czech Republic, this topic is less known by the climatic conditions are undescribed and undefined. The work will deal with the measurements on real floating islands, with the describe of all year round, definition and nutrient balance in various types of tanks.

  13. Treatment of municipal wastewater by anaerobic MBR technology.

    Goal of the thesis is development of technology of municipal wastewater by anaerobic process with aggregated biomass and sludge separation by means of submerged membrane module. Work will be focused on solution of problems connected with membrane clogging by operation, cleaning and process control.

  14. Use of algae for purification of wastewater with high content of nutrients.

    Goal of the thesis is use of microalgae for purification of wastewater with high content of nutrients. Dissertation will be carried on research projects in cooperation with research center AdMaS and company Photon Systems Instruments. In the frame of research problems of process dimensioning and nutrients harvesting from algae will be solved. Results will be verified on real wastewaters.

  1. Assessment of Uncertainties in Flood Risk Analysis

    The aim of this thesis is to propose methods for determining and reducing uncertainties in the context of selected methods of flood risk analysis. Emphasis will be placed on the uncertainty in the results of numerical modeling of water flow in floodplains.

  4. Investigation of the progression of seepage path

    Using existing equipment at the Laboratory of hydraulic research the systematic research of progression of seepage path of selected soils will be carried out and erodibility parameters will be derived. The results will be statistically processed and corresponding uncertainties will be estimated as well. Numerical modelling of dam break due to progressive development of seepage path will be carried out using the parameters obtained.

  6. Probabilistic assessment of internal erosion potential

    The aim is to analyze internal erosion failure at hydraulic structures by probabilistic methods. During the solution the uncertainties in input parameters will be assessed, the failure probability will be estimated via random sampling procedures. Partial aims are analysis of failure modes of water structures due to filter deformation, defining conditions of limit state and deriving partial reliability factors.

  7. Problems active riparian stabilization - applications and adapting methods of determining the "abrasion terminant"

    The basis of the work will finish and subsequent application of methods of determining the "abrasion terminant" focusing on changes in the nature of waves in "shallow" zone of reservoir and influence midline shift waves. Part of the subsequent application of innovative methods for the selected reservoir.

  8. The derivation of selected reliability factors for the assessment of hydraulic structures using the method of limit states

    The aim is to propose and validate methods of reliability assessment of hydraulic structures using limit states method. Partial aims are analysis of failure modes of hydraulic structures, defining conditions of limit state and deriving partial reliability factors for selected limit states.

  9. The issue of stabilizing the banks of the flooded gravel pits and sand pits

    The aim is assessing the stability of banks, prepared by forecasting methods for determining retreat bank line, design and assessment of the effectiveness of biotechnical stabilization of the banks to significantly poor substrate.

  11. Uncertainty analysis in groundwater flow modelling

    In the thesis individual uncertainties in groundwater flow modelling will be classified. The assessment method of impact on selected output variables (piezometric head, seepage amount, etc.) will be proposed for selected uncertainties. The analysis enables estimating of reliability of groundwater flow modelling.
