Profile

The Civil Engineering Management branch of the trimestral consecutive master’s study programme Civil Engineering follows on from four-year bachelor’s courses of a technical nature. The aim is to deepen knowledge connected with theoretical, engineering and in particular structural engineering, economic and managerial disciplines to enable students to independently solve complex structural engineering, technical, economic and managerial problems in the construction industry. Theoretical and engineering knowledge is deepened with applied physics, mathematics and reliability theory. Structural engineering subjects are developed through the inclusion of infrastructure and the construction of foundations for structures, the modernisation and reconstruction of buildings, and statics during reconstruction work. The Civil Engineering Management branch develops through a series of economics and managerial subjects including investment and real estate valuation. Great emphasis is placed on the management of construction projects, management systems, the management of construction companies, financial analysis in construction companies, public finance and investment. Supplementary subjects focus on management techniques and business law. The ability to solve problems in a comprehensive manner and think as an engineer is demonstrated via project work. The connection of economics, managerial and technical subjects is expressed in projects conducted in connection with the management of building projects and construction companies.
The system of compulsory elective subjects enables individual specialisation in fields of study concerned with the work of contractors or with public administration. Further specialised engineering and economics subjects are gradually introduced to the syllabus, through which students will gain more detailed knowledge of new approaches to the solution of problems in the area of Civil Engineering Management.

Key learning outcomes

Graduates from the Civil Engineering Management field of study have gained highly specialised (theoretical and professional) knowledge in the studied field. They are capable of applying this knowledge in the solution of problems within the given field of study.
They are capable, within the scope of the skills they have gained, of independently solving even demanding specialised problems (the independent solution of complex structural engineering, technical, economic and managerial problems in the construction industry), and are thus prepared for work as an engineer in industry. They are capable of implementing comprehensive solutions to engineering problems.
As highly-qualified specialists, graduates from this programme are able to hold high engineering and managerial posts and successfully perform the functions required of them, and are equipped with the prerequisites for the solution of even complex technical and economic problems, and not only during the comprehensive design of structures but also during the preparation and realization of such structures.
Within the scope of their competence (after gaining the required amount of work experience, graduates from the consecutive master’s study programme Civil Engineering can gain certification), they are capable of managing complex technical, economic or specialised activities or projects and take responsibility for their quality. They are also able to take responsibility for the specialised management of individuals and groups.
