The ability of the doctoral student of an independent scientific work on the selected topic, familiarity with scientific work methodology, especially the problem analysis and synthesis of the findings and its creative application in the proposed solution.

The graduate is ready for an independent scientific and research work in the field of architecture and urban design theory, is able to solve practical problems in the field of architecture and urban design independently and at a scientific level, publishes outcomes of both practical and theoretical activities, also in any of the world languages, is able to teach at a higher-education institution.

Entry requirements

The master degree qualification in the branch of architecture or similar achieved at a higher-education institution in the Czech Republic or a school of architecture abroad.
Passing successfully the admission examination during which the applicant proves his/her interest and expert knowledge for a research work.

  1. Architectural language

    The dissertation is focused on architectural language. The issue will be discussed from the artistic, technological, historiographical, sociological and psychological point of view, with the basis in contemporary theory of architecture.

    Specification of the idea of possible development of buildings on the basis of analysis of building materials, details, constructions and spaces created from them based on the analysis of the history of social requirements.

  3. Roof in context of architectural design

    Critical analysis of pitched roofs and roof landscapes in contemporary architecture and building construction. Solutions of current technical, physical and structural-architectural problems of roofs.

  5. Traditionalism in architecture of the 19th, 20th and 21st century

    The dissertation is focused on traditional form languages in architecture from the 19th through the 21st century. The subject might be the analysis of the work of particular architect/s, architecture in specific region, or application of traditional design in the contemporary architecture.

  6. Transformations in architectural education

    Evolution of teaching of architecture in Bohemia and Moravia from the beginning of the first Czechoslovak Republic to the current structure of architecture schools and their legislative framework.
