The ability of the doctoral student of an independent scientific work on the selected topic, familiarity with scientific work methodology, especially the problem analysis and synthesis of the findings and its creative application in the proposed solution.

Key learning outcomes

The graduate is ready for an independent scientific and research work in the field of architecture and urban design theory, is able to solve practical problems in the field of architecture and urban design independently and at a scientific level, publishes outcomes of both practical and theoretical activities, also in any of the world languages, is able to teach at a higher-education institution.

Entry requirements

The master degree qualification in the branch of architecture or similar achieved at a higher-education institution in the Czech Republic or a school of architecture abroad.
Passing successfully the admission examination during which the applicant proves his/her interest and expert knowledge for a research work.

  1. Architectural language

    The dissertation is focused on architectural language. The issue will be discussed from the artistic, technological, historiographical, sociological and psychological point of view, with the basis in contemporary theory of architecture.

  2. Critical evaluation of the conceptual approach in architectural design

    The study of architectural works of contemporary conceptual authors and clarification of the difference between the intent and the final implementation on specific architectural works. Comparative analysis of conceptual education in selected schools of architecture in the Czech Republic and abroad, and its critical evaluation.

  3. Limits the use of earthen materials in contemporary construction

    Earthen material is a natural building material known for centuries, whose theoretical basis is still developing. It is known its beneficial effects on human health and its high durability (existing clay buildings have age 100-300 years). How can this material be used for design of buildings when his properties are yet under an exact verifying ? What are the limits for its use in existing buildings ?

  5. Mansions South Moravia - the potential and limitations of use

    The aim is to sort out the system and evaluate the current structure of mansions in a defined area (southern Moravia), an assessment of their current situation from different perspectives, with emphasis on the possibilities for their future use.

  6. Traditionalism in architecture of the 19th, 20th and 21st century

    The dissertation is focused on traditional form languages in architecture from the 19th through the 21st century. The subject might be the analysis of the work of particular architect/s, architecture in specific region, or application of traditional design in the contemporary architecture.

    Radical development of technology and changes in social life during last century caused changes of typology and forms in individual as well as communal houseing. This phenomenon should be analyzed in case studies or by complex view.
