Issued topics of Doctoral Study Program

  1. AC Drives Contol based on NMPC Algorithms

The topic is focused on development of AC drives advanced control algorithms. In the initial phase the student will study namely non-linear model predictive control algorithms. The research will be then aimed on analysis of NMPC algorithms behaviour for systems with fast dynamics and computational optimization of the algorithms with respect to possible implementation in drives control systems. The topic will be solved in relation to national and international projects running in cooperation with industrial partners.

Tutor: Václavek Pavel, prof. Ing., Ph.D.

  2. Application of orthogonal functions for signal prediction

Perform a bibliographic search of application orthogonal function for prediction. Focus on such orthogonal functions which are called double orthogonal, especially prolate spheroidal wave functions. Analyze the fundamental problems of this prediction such as the influence of sampling frequency, the effects of noise, etc. Propose a suitable algorithm on the base of the analysis and compare results with known methods.

Tutor: Jura Pavel, prof. Ing., CSc.

  3. Evolutionary Computation for Image Analysis and Processing

The theme of the Ph.D. thesis is focused on a research of evolutionary methods for an image analysis and processing. The evolutionary methods are still an insufficiently explored stochastic alternative to a conventional deterministic image processing. The research will be mainly concentrated on genetic algorithms and a differential evolution (possibly on a meta-differential evolution) applicable for an optimization of filters’ parameters and image processing methods from a computational complexity point of view. These evolutionary methods can be used even in cases of analytically exact tasks whose solution is too difficult or even computational unrealistic. The research covers areas of an image enhancement (removing noise, amplifying image contrast), segmentation, feature extraction and classification. Designed evolutionary methods or approaches will take advantage of a single or multi-parameter cost function used for an evaluation of performance of individual filters, bank of filters or a sequence of filters and methods.

    Tutor: Horák Karel, Ing., Ph.D.

  4. Localization of sound and vibration sources with non-contact methods

The topic is aimed to the research of the methods and algorithms for non-contact localization and characterization of sound and vibration sources. Issues related especially with analysis of the sources with near-field acoustic holography method using microphone array will be studied with respect to its applicability for localization in confined space with reflections and other noise sources and also to increase the prediction accuracy with data fusion from other spatial measurement systems. In addition to the theoretical work, practical implementation of these methods and optimization of calculation algorithms for use in the field of non-contact vibrodiagnostics and localization of noise sources in mechanical systems will be carried out.

Tutor: Beneš Petr, doc. Ing., Ph.D.

  5. Methods for the calibration of accelerometers and gyroscopes

The topic is aimed on testing and calibration of the vibration sensors and angular rate sensors for inertial motion units. The objectives of the thesis consist of the analysis of parasitic effects, which affect the overall measurement uncertainty, and the search for new methods for their suppression. There will be available calibration system SPEKTRA CS18 and Dynamic Motion Simulator RMS SDL05 for the research. The topic is going to be supported by Honeywell HTS CZ.

Tutor: Beneš Petr, doc. Ing., Ph.D.

  6. Modeling and management of electro-thermal energy flows in fully electrical vehicles

State-of-the-art systems for energy management in electrical vehicles are usually aimed at energy optimal control to minimize electrical energy consumption while generated heat is considered to be “waste” energy only. Many research teams as well as automotive industry focus research works on control and storage of thermal energy when it is necessary to control electro-thermal system as whole. During the first stage the Ph.D. study theme will be aimed at multi-domain modeling of energy flows in electrical vehicle. In the next step the research will focus on development of advanced control algorithms for electro-thermal system of the car as a non-linear MIMO dynamical system. The goal is to develop control algorithms providing efficient control of energy flows under mixed constraints, while the algorithm must allow their implementation in HW devices used by automotive industry. The research and study will run in close relation to the project H2020 OSEM-EV Optimised and Systematic Energy Management in Electric Vehicles that will be started at the beginning of academic year.

Tutor: Václavek Pavel, prof. Ing., Ph.D.

  7. Photogrammetry Calibration of Different Image Sensors

The theme of the Ph.D. thesis is focused on a research of qualitative extension of a conventional theory for a photogrammetric calibration. A quantitative extension of this calibration theory from two (stereovision) up to N uniform sensors is already generally solved whereas a calibration of a heterogeneous set of sensors is only solved for specific ad-hoc tasks. This thesis has to address the general photogrammetric calibration of N different sensors particularly from a standpoint of a spectral sensitivity (chiefly fusion of VIS/IR), sensors resolution and optical parameters. Conditions for the calibration: neither intrinsic nor extrinsic parameters are known, a visible scene is static and the calibration is performed by using only one planar pattern designed for all sensors simultaneously. An unambiguous knowledge of a homography mathematics among all sensors is a result of the thesis.

    Tutor: Horák Karel, Ing., Ph.D.

  8. Semantic-Based Analysis of Surveillance Video Content

The theme of the Ph.D. thesis is focused on a research of methods for a semantic analysis of image sequences acquired by one or more cameras. These methods allow a semantic definition of a desired or already tracked object or more objects on an image sequence by the one or more cameras whose fields of view might or might not partially overlap mutually and an image quality fluctuate (noise, irregular FPS, resolution). A statistical and structure recognition approach should be used for the semantic image retrieval and object tracking besides classical methods of image processing.

    Tutor: Horák Karel, Ing., Ph.D.

  9. Simulation and control of AC drives under fault conditions

The first task of this work is to develop models of multiphase and multiplex windings AC drives with the possibility to simulate common faults in these devices. Next part of the work will be oriented to algorithms which enables to monitor these faults firstly with the help of commonly used sensors (phase currents, DC bus voltage, rotor position) and secondly with the help of redundant sensors so as to reach higher reliability of the drive. The goal of the last stage is to design control algorithms which will guarantee partial functionality under the fault conditions.

Tutor: Blaha Petr, doc. Ing., Ph.D.

  10. The complex design and subsequent analysis of model human behaviour during operation of the aircraft

The theme of the Ph.D. thesis will be focused on the research in the area of patterns of behaviour of the human viewed as a single controlling element in the cybernetic system. The research and measurement of real parameters of systems and consequently the research and analysis of the results obtained from human (a pilot) behaviour simulation will be conducted. The investigation will be performed on a controlling element – a pilot controlling the flight of an aircraft - on the basis of the measurement of echoes and dynamic behaviour on a defined portfolio of stimuli. The results of the research and analyses will be further exploited for proposing optimal methodology in improving the training of civilian, alternatively also military pilots in training facilities.

Tutor: Bradáč Zdeněk, doc. Ing., Ph.D.
