The durability and the process of failure of building materials in dependence on the environment. Typical failures of buildings in relation to their previous function (residential buildings, industrial buildings, public buildings) and their potential removal. Diagnostics of failures. Excursions to buildings with exposed supporting structures. Failures of wood, metal, masonry and concrete structures). Diagnostics, definition of causes of failures, and principles of their removal.
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Knowledge of the causes and the minifestations of failures, their impact on the structure's reliability and durability. Classification of failures by material and causes. Diagnostics of failures,prevention of failures.
Knowledge of basics of bearing structure design.
