Special Technology of Ceramics

The course should to explain mutual relationships between applied synthesis method, processing condition, structure and properties of advanced ceramics. The fundamentals of synthesis methods including wet chemical synthesis process, polymer pyrolysis, gas-phase reaction, mechanochemical synthesis, etc., are explained.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The structure and properties of advanced ceramic materials are explained to students in order to give them ability to follow current trends in ceramic technology.

Prerequisites

The basic knowledge’s about silicate and ceramics technology are necessary.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Oral examination (15-20 min, without written preparation).

3) Processing powders for preparation of advanced ceramics II.: Precipitation methods
4) Processing powders for preparation of advanced ceramics III.: Spray pyrolysis, frizing method, gas-phase reaction, emulsion methods
5) Thermochemical methods
6) Mechanochemical reaction and methods
7) Properties of advanced ceramics I.
8) Properties of advanced ceramics II.
9) Preparation of single crystals
10) Ceramic fuel cells
11) Ceramics for electronics applications
12) Bioceramics
13) Intercalation of polymers in layered clay minerals

Aims

The aim of the course is a professional entry into individual areas of advanced ceramic technology in relation to the functional properties and the influence of the raw material used and the preparation technique on these properties. The audience can thus orientate themselves in this rapidly developing area.
