Data Processing and Analysis

FP-ERRdpaPAcad. year: 2020/2021

The course focuses mainly on the following areas: System approach for solving managerial problems (system and its modelling, analysis and simulation). Use of models in managerial practice (spreadsheet, netbook and graphical models, engineering tables in MS Excel). Using formulas and functions to solve managerial tasks. Using folded and combined functions to solve managerial tasks. Graphs and their use (creation, analysis and use of graphs in the work of the manager). Working with data (import, export, linking, input data authentication, conditional formatting and data transformation). Data analysis (working with filters, lists, summaries and pivot tables). Using PowerPivot to analyse and work with data. Selected analytical tasks (sensitivity analysis and work with scenarios, ...). Utilization and solution of optimization tasks (use of MS Excel analyser and analytical tools). Solving of selected mathematical problems (derivatives, integrals, equation systems and differential equations in MS Excel). Using interconnection and integration of applications to automate the solution of managerial tasks. Managing Outputs for Managers (using advanced MS Word and MS PowerPoint tools and functions for effective manager work).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

As learning outcomes of the course, students will acquire knowledge and skills to effectively analyse and transform source data into information usable in managerial decision-making process, including subsequent interpretation of results. Practical skills are developed with the use of MS Office applications (with the focus on MS Excel) for solving practical problems and case studies.

Prerequisites

Knowledge and skills of practical use of office applications as well as fundamental knowledge of algorithmization, programming techniques, maths, statistics and economics are required.

Co-requisites

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course contains lectures that explain basic principles, problems and methodology of the discipline and seminars that promote the practical knowledge of the subject presented in the lectures with the focus on real managerial examples.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit conditions:
Student has to obtain at least 50% of the possible maximum during the semester (20 points of 40).
If would be detected plagiarism or unauthorized collaboration on projects, or at mid-term test, credit will be granted with consideration of disciplinary proceedings.
Mid-term test - writing, (answers could be by selecting one of several possibilities, sentence answers or a combination thereof) and developing practical task by submission. (20 points)
Development of the project - one project by entering the appropriate documentations. The project assignment is presented to students in the second lecture. (20 points)

Exam conditions:
Final exam - written form, a test (answers could be by selecting one of several possibilities, sentence answers or a combination thereof) and an oral examination. (60 points for the written part of the exam, the successful completion of the exam, written exam has to be evaluated by at least 30 points, otherwise the test is scored 0 points with the evaluation of F.)

Aims

Hlavním cílem předmětu je, aby si studenti osvojili základní teoretické a především praktické znalosti nutné pro řešení manažerských úloh s využitím dostupných prostředků ICT.
Studenti získají především znalosti a dovednosti umožňující efektivní analýzu a transformaci zdrojových dat do podoby informací využitelných v manažerském rozhodování včetně následné interpretace (prezentace) výsledků. Přičemž praktické dovednosti jsou rozvíjeny s využitím kancelářských aplikací MS Office (s hlavním zaměřením na MS Excel) pro řešení praktických úloh a případových studií.
