Diploma Design Seminar

The course will provide knowledge for solving the technical problem of the proposed product design. Teaching takes place with an emphasis on technical analysis of the product, defining the essential technical parameters of the product, design and description of the function of individual components of the product and technology of production of individual components of the product, including their assembly and quantity of produced pieces.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

- Ability to search for relevant information in bibliographic databases and to cite these sources correctly.
- Ability to define the technical problem of the proposed product design.
- Ability to propose appropriate procedures or conceptual approaches to solve the technical problem.

The output of the course will be a semester work and its presentation.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of material science, solid state mechanics and especially machine design courses acquired during previous student education is expected.

Graded course-unit credit requirements:
- active participation in tutorials,
- preparation of introductory, ongoing and final presentation,

Aims

The aim of the course is to formulate the technical problem of the diploma thesis on the basis of critically evaluated current state of knowledge and to propose its conceptual solution, which will be in accordance with the proposed design of the given product.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in tutorials is compulsory and checked. A maximum of two absences are allowed.

Syllabus

1. Introduction to the course, aim of the course.
2.-4. Introductory presentation: presentation of the problem and aims of the diploma thesis, current state of knowledge - technical analysis, sketches of shape solution or variant studies of the product design.
5. Elaboration and consultation of semester work.
6.-8. Ongoing presentation: basic dimensions and essential technical parameters of the product, placement of product components including internal arrangement, design and function description of individual product components.
9. Elaboration and consultation of semester work.
10.-12. Final presentation: overview of materials used in product design, technology of production of individual product components including their assembly and with regard to the quantity of produced pieces, information about typical user of the designed product.
13. Classification of students, graded course-unit credit.
