English Language Tutorial for PhD Students

Self-study of terminology from a selected scientific publication which was approved by the language tutor and dissertation supervisor, and consultations of written tasks.
Following the instructions in the e-learning course in MOODLE, students will use the English terminology from the selected scientific publication to develop an English-Czech glossary of key terminology (min. 20 items). Based on the given structure they will write a summary of the selected publication using academic English.
The language tutoring is a necessary preparation for the examination in a foreign language within the Doctoral Study Programme.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Knowledge of a certain amount of the technical vocabulary of the respective field and the grammatical features characteristic of the professional language style.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of English at B1 level of Common European Framework of Reference for languages. A suitable preparation for the doctoral study of English are the optional courses of Professional English I and II.
