Brickmaking

FAST-5J4Acad. year: 2020/2021

The position of bricks between building materials, the bricks manufacture history. Proposal of bricks products, marketing. Assortment and properties of brick products. Testing. Raw materials for brickmaking, properties, evaluation, demands. Preparation of raw material. The influence of preparation to the quality of brick body. Shaping in brickmaking: pressing, wire cut process, stiff plastic proces, rheology of pastes. The mouth of the auger machine- design, proposal. Failures. Special methods of shaping. Drying of pressed pieces- static and dynamic of the drying process, intensification of the drying process. Humid air. Driers. Burning of brick products- burning technology in annular and tunnel kilns, burning of expanding admixtures, emission of pollutants, burning aids. The porosity of the brick body and the influence of it on strength values and on heat conductivity of products, frost resistance, efflorescence. Engobes and glazes applicable for brick products, The Seger formula and ceramic calculations. The planing of up-to-date brick plants in Europe.

10.Modeling of heat transmission during burning
11.Technology of burning, tunnel kilns, circular and discontinuous kilns
12.Porosity, strength, permeability, frost resistance of brick body, scum-resistance
13.Engobes and glazes. Up-to-date European brick plants

Specificities of brickmaking – concrete procedure and varieties of brickmaking, properties and assortment of brick products, utilization of brick products, relation between porosity and utility properties of the brick body and resulting utility properties of the body
