The course is focused on the problem of evaluating information from acquired data, data and bits and pieces of information from a competitive environment, a specialized service of Competitive Intelligence firm.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will understand modern approaches and methods for gathering and evaluating information about a competitor, about the competitive environment including the creation of added value which is needed to obtain intelligence. Students will become familiar with the software tools used in Competitive Intelligence.

Prerequisites

The knowledge of organization and managerial functions of firms (basic level), the knowledge of work with PC and Internet (basic level).

Lectures consist of an explanation of basic principles, methodology of the discipline, problems and their solutions.

Aims

Cílem předmětu je, aby si studenti osvojili teoretické základy a metodické postupy potřebné pro získání a osvojení znalostí v oblasti přípravy a vlastního zpracování získaných údajů, dat a informací pomocí jednotlivých metod zpravodajské analýzy. Studenti by měli být schopni ze získaných informací vytvořit přidanou hodnotu a sestavit zpravodajskou zprávu sloužící jako podklad pro strategické rozhodování vrcholového vedení podniku.

Syllabus

1. Introduction — terminology intelligence analysis (a), the basic tasks for, the importance of intelligence for strategic management, defining the news process, basic methods for (deduction, induction, and abduction), understanding the nature of the competition and the competitive environment, epistemology importance for IA, the causes of intelligence failure.
2. Define the news issue-problem formulation, strategy, modelled according to the task paradigm, the objectives of the model and its combination (generic, component, collateral).
3. Create a conceptual model – the system definition (structural, procedural and functional model), concept maps, procedural maps, select the generic model.
4. Select the appropriate methods for intelligence analysis, errors in the selection of methods.
5. Fate and Visualization-the initial checklist, customer checklist, mind maps.
6. Methods for the analysis of time - chronology, the event flow, the array of events, patterns of behavior.
