Managerial Communication

The main content of this subject is to gain relevant knowledge from the field of psychology and sociology which is necessary for effective company. Emphasis is put on interpersonal communication in the corporate environment and the ability to apply them in training activities in order to develop managerial skills corporate practice.

Hlavním výstupem bude kompendium znalostí relevantních interpersonální komunikaci a osvojení si kompetence na úrovni složky schopnosti efektivní komunikace v podnikovém prostředí.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for awarding the course-unit credit:
The overall evaluation and successful completion of the course consists of:
• 25% written assignment
• 25% presentation of assignment outcomes (presentation, discussion)
• 10% active participation (e.g. active participation in classes, participation in optional thematically relevant lectures, seminars - must be confirmed by a certificate)
* 40% final written test

To successfully completion of the course in the frame of approved individual study plan, it is necessary to prepare an assignment on an approved topic, present it and answer questions in a discussion. The semester assignment will be deliverd in written form and has to meet specified criteria including formal requirements. Topic will be approved by teacher at the beginning of the semester.

Course curriculum

The content of the course is focused on relevant knowledge of psychology and sociology necessary for effective business management. Emphasis is put on gaining relevant knowledge of interpersonal communication in the corporate environment and the ability to apply it via training tools in order to develop and strengthen managerial skills for application in business practice.
1. Introduction to the course: the importance of interpersonal communication for managerial work. The concept of the subject, its basic topics and their connections. Overview of basic and recommended study literature. Determining the requirements for completing the course. Selection of topics for elaboration of semester work.
2. Definition of the process of interpersonal communication and the importance of communication competence for managerial practice. Process models of the communication process and their effective application in managerial practice.
3. Self-assessemnt and getting to know the personality of others as an effective tool for effective communication.
4. Regularities of social perception and their consequences for knowing oneself and others. Application of the laws of social perception in managerial practice.
5. Principles of effective verbal communication in managerial practice. Effective overcoming of barriers in verbal communication.
6. Active listening as an integral part of effective communication.
7. Effective nonverbal communication. Forms of nonverbal communication and their effective application in managerial practice.
8. Specifics and principles of interview.
9. Principles of successful presentation and its practice.
10. Principles of effective meetings management.
11. Basics of theoretical models of social communication (assertiveness and transaction analysis) and the possibility of their application in increasing the effectiveness of social communication.
12. Effective communication in international environment.
13. Final summary of the acquired knowledge and evaluation of the acquired skills and experience.

The main aim of this course is to acquire knowledge of interpersonal communication in corporate environment and its application thanks training activities.
