Information and Communication Technologies

The course is designed for the students to know, propose and use advanced research procedures and methods and to be able to adequately apply or modify them in a creative manner for the use in economic research in the field of strategic management of information systems.
The course content:
· Information systems management strategy. Basic methodologies used for information systems management - ITIL, Cobit.
· The life cycle of information systems and their management.
· Information technology, current trends. Issues of security, Cyber Law, GDPR and legal consequences.
· Linking enterprise processes and information systems. Management models, IT as a service, SLA, metrics.
· Effectiveness and efficiency of information systems; analyses of weaknesses of IS deployment in the company; known errors and possibilities of their solution.
· The actual examination of the effectiveness and efficiency of an information system in a selected company and proposals for improvement

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will have a clear idea of modern methods of strategic management in the field of corporate IS and will be made familiar with the modern information technologies.
They will acquire basic knowledge necessary for creation of an information strategy, for evaluation of IS efficiency, they will be able to define an optimal version of new IS by means of suitable metric and to define Service Level Agreement for outsourcing in the field of IS. They will learn how to actively create corporate security policy in the field of IS and will be able to take an active part in realization of IS implementation projects and their control

fundamental knowledge in the field of ICT management are expected.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching of study subjects is organized in the form of lectures, seminars, consultations and independent studies


Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students are evaluated on the basis of processing their own research in the company - the written term paper. Within the course, each student will evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of the information system in a selected company, using the knowledge of the subject. The submitted written term paper will be defended and discussed with the teacher. In the course evaluation, up to 80 points will be awarded for the content of the written term paper, and up to 20 points for its presentation and defence. The minimum requirement for passing the exam is 75 points.

Aims

The main objective of the course is to provide students with the fundamental theoretical knowledge necessary for management of corporate IS. It is necessary to understand the trends in IS development, to know the substance of up to-date information technologies and to understand strategic management issues in the field of IS. Students need to know how the information system may be used to gain a strategic advantage, they have to identify and master solution of questions related to the IS efficiency and its measuring, to know how to analyse the suitability of application of different IS types of in a company and also to understand fundamental principles of security policy in the field of IS.
