Learning outcomes of the course unit

By the study of chosen topics from Physical chemistry the students obtain the required knowledge, which they will apply by the elaboration of diploma thesis.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of chemical termodynamics, chemical kinetics, elektrochemistry and science on structure of matter. Knowledge of english language, enabling the study of chemical literature.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of individual consultation. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The evaluation is performed by the gurantee, where the quality of the presentation with respect to the scientific and formal level, as well as the quality of student´s answers within discussion is taken into account.

Course curriculum

Selected chapters from advanced physical chemistry preferably directly related to subject of dissertation theses of enrolled students:
Thermodynamics of mixtures, particularly solutions including micellar or macromolecular solutions.
Principles of non-equilibrium thermodynamics.
Electrical properties of molecules, interactions between molecules.
Kinetics of complex reactions, processes in plasma.
Theoretical aspects of chemical kinetics.
Homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis.

Work placements

Not applicable.

Aims

The goal of the subject: Based on the study of recommended literature and consecutive presentation in the form of lecture, the Ph.D.student should prove that he understands the basic principles of physico-chemical phenomena connected with the elaboration of diploma thesis.
