Technical Practices - CHM

Within the subject of the Professional Practice, the student is obliged to take an internship of two weeks in a company or institution in the Czech Republic or abroad. The company chooses the student himself according to the degree of study. Within the Institute of Materials Chemistry, these are enterprises where inorganic, polymeric or composite materials are produced, processed or analyzed. The selected enterprise is approved by the student by the teacher and the practice is then started according to the agreed schedule. The specific content of the practice corresponds to the student's future employment and is also agreed upon by the teacher. It is not necessary to pass the practice at once (two weeks), it is possible even longer term - 1 - 2 days a week, 14 days, etc., however, the minimum number of days spent in practice is 10 days.

Learning outcomes of the course unit


After completing the course, the student should significantly strengthen the following disciplines

- Communicating with colleagues in a working team
- Ability to teamwork resulting in unexpected workplace situations
- Manual skills from operating laboratories, rapid operational analyzes,
- Ability to design solutions such as analyzes for a given production, control, etc.
- Enhance presentation skills, not only on PC but also on paper only or verbally
- Getting an idea of real operating and production conditions
- Raising awareness of the social and pay situation of employees in the real process
- Developing the ability to solve tasks independently

Prerequisites

To successfully complete the subject of a professional practice, the student should master the skills appropriate to his study and age. These include the following skills:

- Knowledge of chemical calculations (solutions, concentrations, gases)
- Knowledge of basic mathematical operations (secondary school mathematics)
- Basic orientation in the laboratory, work safety, first aid
- Awareness of the hazards of commonly used chemicals (acids, bases, poisons)
- Awareness of existence of R / S sentences, CAS numbers, classification of chemicals, etc.
- Language skills when practicing abroad
- Basic communicative skills
- Ability to respond to new impulses and situations

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The subject Practical practice is a practical subject beyond acquiring skills during the practice itself, trying to lead students to independence and their subsequent applicability in the work process for which the students are prepared. During the introductory lesson, the lecturer will acquaint students with the terms of the credit. There is also everything on the students themselves. Teaching students are available every week, always at the time of the advertised consultation hours or at any time upon prior arrangement.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The subject of Professional Practice is evaluated after passing an unqualified credit. The credit is awarded on the basis of the following requirements:

- Agree and practice in the required time scale
- Submitting a report on professional practice in the range of 4-6 A4 pages
- Passing a certificate of completion of the practice
- Interview with the teacher about the course of the practice and the acquired knowledge

Course curriculum

The professional experience is according to the following curriculum:
- Choosing an appropriate institution, a business for practice
- Agreement with the enterprise on the content, form and timetable of the practice
- Signing of a contract of practice between FCH BUT and enterprise, institutions
- Graduation, certificate of completion of practice (FCH BUT form)
- Creating a practice report protocol in the range of 4-6 A4 pages
- Passing a certificate of completion of practice and a protocol on the practice
- Credit interview with the teacher on the content of the practice, activities and acquired skills during the practice
- Granting credit

Aims

Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the subject is to familiarize students with the real work process, in a real environment for which they are prepared in their studies. Students have the possibility of short-term placements in the company, where they are acquainted with the production, processing or analysis of materials. Students complete their professional experience in such enterprises or institutions, which according to their production program correspond with the professional orientation of the student, also with regard to the future final graduate thesis. Overall, the main objective of the course is to give students a realistic picture of the jobs for which they are prepared.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

For successful completion of the subject of professional practice, the student will practice the practice himself, if he does not manage for some reason, he will help him / her with suitable placement in practice by the teacher. After completing the required practice 10 days after 8.5 hours in practice, the student will give the student a certificate of practice and a practice report in the range of 4-6 A4 pages. Everything is finished by a credit test with the teacher on the practice and acquired skills. Based on all the above mentioned points, the student is awarded a credit.
