The course introduces computer graphics and its application in architecture. Students will get practical knowledge on how to use software to work with graphical data. Basic information about graphical editors and their use in architectural practice are provided.

– Students will gain knowledge on how to use computer graphics in architecture.
– Students will gain information about graphical data used in architecture.
– Students will familiarize themselves with the methods for processing graphical data using graphical editors.
– Students will gain the skills to present architectural work.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Explanation, illustrative assignments, and individual work on the assigned projects take place in a computer laboratory, students use the e-learning system (LMS Moodle).

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students will submit assignments during the semester and write a credit test. The assignments worked out during the semester form 50 % of the marks. The credit test verifies the knowledge and forms 50 % of the marks.

1. Working in the faculty computer network, in BUT network, available services, the Internet, e-mail, information sources
2. Computer support of architectural work, computer graphics basics
3. Preparation and processing of visual data: scanning, digital photography
4. Processing of visual dara – PhotoShop
5. Creation of staffage and collage – PhotoShop
6. Working with vector graphics – Illustrator
7. Creating a poster – Illustrator
8. DTP – InDesign
9. Creating multi-page document – InDesign
10. Developing an architectural model – SketchUp
11. Developing an architectural model – SketchUp
12. Working on student´s model – SketchUp
13. Credit test

Aims

The aim of the course is to gain general knowledge of computer graphics and its application in architecture. The aim is to get the information on how to work with graphical data, how to process them in graphical editors, and to learn the methods for presenting architectural design.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Students are required to attend 10 practical classes at minimum, the absence cannot be compensated, it could be only excused in case of serious reasons.
In the case of a student's apology and with approval of the subject guarantor, personal attendance may be substituted with online attendance in the classes.
