Diploma Project - Module M5

Studio work is the main and essential method of teaching architecture. It is based on the “learning by doing” method, i.e. acquiring knowledge and skills through practical application. It consist of a dialogue between the teacher and the student about the project in progress. The diploma project should prove the general preparedness of the graduate to enter the profession, the ability to pass the authorization examination at the Czech Chamber of Architects and then potentially lead the architectural freelance studio independently.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

By defending a diploma project, the student proves the versatility of using the theoretical and practical skills acquired throughout the study and is able to apply them in architectural and urban design.

Prerequisites

The assignment of the master thesis can be obtained only after completing all other compulsory and compulsory elective courses in the bachelor program “Architecture and Urbanism”.
Creation of dissertation work uses knowledge of all previous theoretical subjects of bachelor´s and graduate studies and experience gained in practice.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

In order to complete the course, it is necessary to submit the complete work in time according to the assignment and the Rules for Study at FA.

Course curriculum

The student systematically prepares the master thesis according to the assignment. Work takes 12 weeks. This is an independent work, regularly consulted with the supervisor and other experts.

Aims

By going through this subject and by submitting full set of self elaborated project or theoretic work the student will show universal orientation in problems of chosen topic and also his readiness to use gained theoretical and information and practical skills from existing study and also is able to conceptually use them in architectonic and urbanistic design.
The aim of this subject is to show in all important views the city problems /or urbanized country/ by individual work on chosen topic in the form of urbanistic composition. Also finding main problems concerning the task by evaluating research, determining priorities for own concept of spatial and functional arrangement, correct adjustment of final solution in graphical and digital form with supportive argumentation for proposal defence, convincing presentation form.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Dissertation project is an individual student’s work, continuous controls are connected with mandatory and active presence during critiques. It is an interest of student to consult his work with project leader, eventually with specialists from the school and external specialists.
