Structural Analysis (1)

Basic assumptions on modelling of structures. Catenary and cable polygon. Loading of structures. Influence of live load. Calculation of extreme values of internal forces. Principle of virtual work – application for calculation of deflection of trusses. Force method – simple statically not determinate beams, continues beams, plane frames, plane arches, trusses. Utilization of symmetry.

Linear algebra, fundaments of matrix calculus, solutions of systems of linear algebraic equations, vector calculus, analytic geometry, derivative of a function , the Indefinite integral, the definite integral, applications of the integral in geometry and physics.
Kinematics of a point mass, dynamics of a point mass, dynamics of a rigid body.

Course curriculum

1.Introduction to modelling of structures, fundamentals, hypothesis, analysis. Cable polynom and catenary.
2.Loading of structures, influence mobile load, lines of static quantities exerted on a beam.
3.Evaluation of influence line.
4.The principle of virtual work. Theorems of virtual works.
5.The evaluation of the translations of the truss girders by means of the unit forces Method.
6.Methods of analysis of the static indeterminate structures. The evaluation of the degree of static indeterminacy. The force method. Static indeterminate girder.
7.Continuous girder with solid cross-section, general formulation for Clapeyron’s theorem – force and deflection loading.
8.The force method – static indeterminate bar systems.
9.The force method – static indeterminate plane frames.
10.Utilisation of the shape symmetry of the frame.
11.Static indeterminate plane arc.
12.The influence of the compression of the thrust line of the arc, change of temperature and the influence of shifting supports.
13.Effects of uniform and non-uniform temperature change

Structural analysis of axial forces in statically determinate trusses, simple built-in beam, plane frame, cable polynom and catenary.
Loading of structures, influence of mobile load. Influence lines of static quantities exerted on a beam.
Explanation the principle of virtual work and theorem of reciprocity of virtual work. The calculation of deformations by the method of unit forces.
Information about the force method of structural analysis of statically indeterminate plane frames, planar bar systems, continuous girder, including the effect of support relaxation and the temperature influence.
