Construction and Transport Facilities

This subject gives the basic information about road planning and road construction. Students get ackquainted with the basic principles of the road planning and road planning aesthetics. The following lectures are focused on the road construction, construction materials, laboratory tests and technologies used for the construction of particular layers. Also the road maintenance and recycling technologies are going over.
Practical courses are dedicated to basic individual examples from road planning, calculations and drawings of particular parts of horizontal and vertical alignment in the frame of a road project.

1. Historical development of road constructions. Terminology.
2 . Road design - horizontal alignment - basic elements - straight, circle, clothoid.
3. Horizontal alignment - combinations of the basic design elements, superelevation
4. Widening of roads, vertical alignment.
5. Vertical alignment, aesthetics in road design, typical cross section
6. Drainage
7. Pavement technology - construction, pavement courses, subgrade
8. Compaction control, road construction machinery
9. Aggregate, unbound and bound base courses
10. Bitumen, properties
11. Asphalt mixtures
12. Asphalt layers, types, tests, requirements
13. Cement concrete roads, pavings
