Properties and Testing Materials

Basic data about production, properties and testing methods of building materials. . Building stone, aggregates. Binders: lime plaster, cement, special materials. Building ceramics: brickmaking products, fireproof ceramics. Building glass. Metals: iron and steel, steel for concrete, steel for constructions, non - ferrous metals and alloys. Timber: technical timber species, timber for construction, wood products for building. Concrete: classification of concretes, ingredients, production, sorts and properties of concrete. Lightweight concretes. Polymers, mastics, adhesives, coating compositions. Insulating materials. Composites. Practical laboratory testing of chosen building materials.

The skill of the combined use of the knowledge of sciences (physics, chemistry, mathematics) on a secondary school level, a good estimate and the ability to compare data and methods., the ability to use by himself the information from the literature and internet, the intermediate level of written and spoken English.

Aims

The ability not only to use the theoretical knowledge obtained during the study, but also to orientate oneself in the field of properties of the whole scale of building materials, the overview of the most used building materials nowadays and in the past, the view of history of the given material, its properties including the production technology and its testing,the knowledge of English language.
