English 6 for Combined Type of Study

The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language at general level. Also dealt with is ESP. It is focused on practical, everyday communication for the international workplace.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace, as well as grammar structures for everyday communication at intermediate level. Students will acquire the language corresponding to the level B1 according to the "Common European Framework of Reference: Learning, Teaching, Assessment" set by the Council of Europe.

Prerequisites

Course is intended for students who are familiar with the language at pre-intermediate level, as well as with grammar and vocabulary corresponding to the course A5K.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is intended for the combined form of study, indivudual work of students is directed by lectures and exercises taught en bloc.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having worked out assigned tasks and passed a credit test. Altogether it is required to get at least 30 points out of 50 in this test. In case this benchmark of 60% is not achieved, there is a possibility for the student to resit the test. Finally, students' work in the e-learning support of the course is also reflected in the overall course assessment. Exam has a written (80 points) and an oral part (20 points) and students are required to collect at least 50% of the points in both parts. The scope corresponds to the Intermediate level and the courses A5K-A6K. The aim of the examination is to prove student's knowledge and skills to use the language as an independent user.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is systematically checked by the teacher. Absence may be in justified cases compensated for by the agreement with the teacher.
