Technical Writing 2

The goal of Technical Writing 2 is to instruct students in writing their research papers in English. Students develop cognitive skills in scientific writing, concentrate on the writing process, train syntactical structures and selected rhetorical functions typical for scientific and technical texts. On the background of a selected diploma thesis or their own research, students then rewrite its individual sections in English resulting in a research paper. The course is on the B2 level of CEFR and is accompanied by a moodle resource.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course develops knowledge and skills that students acquired in Technical Writing 1 and concentrates them into the context of research writing on the B2 level of CEFR. At the end of the course, students will be able to write a publishable research paper.

Prerequisites

7AZ examination. Technical Writing 1 is recommended but not necessary.

Seminars and moodle.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The credit and examination comprise regular attendance (10 points), e-learning exercises (30 points) and a research paper (60 points). Classification expressed in points complies with the regularly used scale.

Aims

The goal of the course is a development of specific skills used for writing scientific and technical texts. The result is a research paper in English.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is compulsory and is systematically checked by the teacher. Two absences are allowed.
