Modern Quality Management

FSI-WMKAcad. year: 2019/2020

Quality management principles, system thinking, basic TQM philosophy. standards ISO 9000 are introduced to students in this course. Basic knowledge of European quality policy, total quality management in the context of environmental protection and OHSMS as conditions to launching. Systems of relevant technical standards.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Understanding the principles of total quality management, legal norms of quality management (Czech Republic, EU). Knowledge of procedures and norms of conformity assessment.

Prerequisites

Students are required to have the basic knowledge of technology, management and economy of companies, mathematics and physics, usual for bachelor's level.

Lecture combined with interactive seminar.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Writing of one semester work on assigned topic in electronic form; range 4 – 6 pages A4. Criteria – satisfaction of topic, range and references.

Students will be made familiar with the main tools of modern quality management in the context of environmental protection and OHSMS. Basics of the community law of EU.

Syllabus

1. Concepts and terminology. Definition and dimension of quality (“total” product). Customer focus. Priority determination. The process approach. Integrated management system. The development of approach to enterprise and organization management. Six Sigma, Lean Production.
2. Total quality management. Marketing management, total engineering solution and quality planning (QFD, FMEA). Environmental and security limiting conditions of management system.
3. Conformity assessment. Mandatory and facultative conformity assessment. Certification, accreditation. Legal environment EU, Czech Republic.
4. Technical norms. Quality as regular interface of processes. The family of standards ISO 9000, ISO 14000, OHSAS 18000, ISO/IEC 17000. Certification according to ISO 9001. Accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories.
