Psychology and sociology in Forensic Engineering

The course introduces the basic knowledge of bases of sociology, social psychology, psychology and psychological disciplines (e.g. work psychology, driving psychology, etc.), gives orientation in the view of the functioning of society and its institutions. It informs about basic aspects of functioning of human psyche, focuses on human behaviour in society including the pathological behaviour, all in relation to the function of an expert.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire special and professional knowledge and skills in the field of humanities, which will allow to see technical and technological issues in relation to the life and function of the society and its social determination.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of humanities as taught at gymnasiums. For graduates of other, for example, vocational schools, a basic course is prepared to unite the knowledge.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction to psychology and sociology. Subject, system, classification of psychological and sociological disciplines.
2. Basic topics: Personality and personality potential, personality typology, temperament. Cognition of personality. Society, its establishment, structure and functioning
3. Mental phenomena - perception, memory, thinking, learning, feelings and emotions.
4. Motives and motivations influencing behaviour. Human behaviour in terms of development. Individual development.
5. Importance of external and internal factors influencing behaviour.
6. Normality and pathology of human behaviour.
7. Addictions and their influence on behaviour.
8. Mental resistance - consequences and manifestations of stressful situations
9. Mental strain and stress. Personal potential and perception of stress in stressful situations.
10. Aggression and aggressiveness in behaviour.
11. Conflicts and stressful situations.
12. Psychosomatic disorders, manifestations and influence on behaviour.
13. Social contact, interaction and perception.

Aims

The aim of the course is the orientation in the humanities, social and psychological sciences on the level necessary to perform the function of a versatile expert in forensic engineering. The acquisition of knowledge and skills from the social sciences will allow to determine the weight of the human factor e.g. in road accidents.
