Legal Aspects of the Scientific Work

The course covers the issues of scientific training, the position of a scientist and scientific knowledge, employee scientific works, business inventions, school works, works to order, legal aspects of research and development, public financial support of research and development, rights and obligations for research and development.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Acquisition of deep theoretical knowledge of the ethics of research work and scientific work in a broad sense, including a knowledge overview of the legal framework for the functioning of research, development and innovation.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The defense of home written original academic essay on the topic of legal aspects of research and development including the ethics of research and development according to the student's own choice.

Course curriculum

1. Importance of scientific training, types of knowledge, scientific idea, scientist, scientific knowledge, scientific rights; scientific infrastructure.
2. Signs of science and scientific concepts, general scientific methods, general philosophical methods.
3. Scientist, scientific knowledge, scientific work, scientific rights.
4. Employee scientific works, business inventions, school works, works to order I.
5. Employee scientific works, business inventions, school works, works to order II.
6. Scientific freedom, scientific competition and delicts.
7. Scientific public morality and its principles, scientific integrity (legal aspects of research and development ethics) I.
8. Scientific public morality and its principles, scientific integrity (legal aspects of research and development ethics) II.
9. Scientific public morality and its principles, scientific integrity (legal aspects of research and development ethics) III.
10. Public administration of research and development and public financial support of research and development.
11. Obligations for research and development.
12. Rights to research and development results.
13. Summary of the material, discussion of the topics, final assessment.
