Social Life, Rhetorics and Business Ethics

Předmět představuje studentům současný etický koncept relevantní v byznyse. Rozvíjí jejich schopnosti definovat problém, analyzovat, řešit a rozhodovat z hlediska etické a sociální perspektivy. Studenti se seznámí s moderními nástroji kultivace podnikatelské etiky a jejich využitím v koždodenním pracovním prostředí. Důraz je kladený na komplexní pojetí etického řízení ve firmě.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students will be made familiar with the modern attitude to doing business taking into account the social and ethical aspects.
They will master basic skills necessary for solving ethical dilemmas.
They will be able to participate in creation and application of tools intended for improving the business ethics in a company or institution.
Prerequisites
The knowledge of doing business – types of business companies, tools of management, theory of behaviour of company, theory of behaviour of customers, international business manners.

Lectures, seminars, presentations, case studies.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
A scoring system is used in seminars. Student has to obtain min. 60 points out of 100 possible. Points can be earned by completing the required and optional parts:
1. max. 40 points for completing of the final test (required part) in the credit week
2. max. 20 points for team presentation of the presentation topic (required part)
3. max. 20 points for the preparation and submission of a company document at the end of the semester (required part)
4. max. 20 points for active participation in the second to the sixth seminar in the semester (optional part).

Course curriculum
1. Social responsibility concept: definition, development, close concept - eg the concept of good citizenship.
2. Theoretical. social responsibility anchoring: stockholedrs theory, stakeholders theory, Corporate Governance.
3. Social responsibility measurement: GRI, ISO 26 000, AA 1000, SA 8 000, reporting, EU directive 2014/95.
4. Ethics in business: theoretical background, development.
5. Ethical management tools: traditional - code, teamwork, precautionary principle.
6. Modern ethical management tools - ethical ombudsman, ethical and social audit, mentoring, and more.
7. Best practices
Aims
The objective of the course is to introduce an ethical and social dimensions of business. Globalisation of economy brings new challenges, which the coming generation should be able to solve using the knowledge of the contemporary theory.
Case studies which are a part of exercises should help students to solve ethical dilemmas.
