Visual Digital Game Styles 2

FaVU-VSDH2Acad. year: 2019/2020

The course combines theoretical and practical lessons with a focus on the digital game medium and the adjacent field of application. In the practical part, course focuses on understanding the relation between stylization and authenticity in creating thier own visual style in the chosen genre or creative intent. It introduces students to the digitization of physical materials, textures creation, and monitors current applied digital painting and collage. Through partial training topics, overlays occur for board or card games, or for installation / escape games.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Ability to digitize physical materials and prepare them for use in a given area. Design and understanding of experimental game mechanics compared to the general reality of the mainstream or alternative game framework. Identify the relationship between digital and physical play, with its potential use in creative work.

Aims

The aim of the course is practical and theoretical familiarization of students with the current possibilities of digital games and their role in various ecosystems. Understanding the digitization of physical materials and their subsequent use in practice. Students will acquire sophisticated work methods and gain a deeper insight into the subject, through exercise. The acquired skills are a prerequisite for enhancing the creative work with this medium.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The time frame of lessons is determined by the schedule. Lessons take place in a computer study room, or, depending on the situation, in the Studio of Multimedia FaVU VUT (building U2). At least 80% attendance is required for credit. Making up for the missed lessons depends on the agreement with the teacher and assumes completion of the missed tasks.
