Course detail

Digital sculpture - 3D print 2

FaVU-1DS-2Acad. year: 2019/2020

Advanced settings of some of the most used slicers (G-code generation software) will be introduced, including an explanation of their differences and benefits. Clarification of FDM printing processes and their use or complications in creating some specific shapes. In addition, the course will include clarification of the rules for assembly work and large objects made up of multiple interconnected parts (creation of offsets, locks, appropriate dividing planes, comparatives). Attention will also be paid to the formation of joints (bonding, welding, chemical bonding), joint retouching and print defects and surface treatments (abrasive, additive, chemical).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Upon completion of the course students will be able to estimate the appropriate procedure for the production of specific objects and to work independently with 3D printer and service software.

Course curriculum

1) Recapitulation of Digital sculpture - 3D print 1 course
2) Introduction of advanced G-code settings
3) Working with complex shapes
4) Creating print-sets; rules for proper functionality
5) Large object division
6) Joining parts (gluing, welding, chemical bonding)
7) Retouching joints and print defects
8) Surface treatment (abrasive, additive, chemical)

Aims

The objective of the course is to expand students' skills achived in the course Digital Technology - 3D printing 1; to introduce students to advanced G-code settings; to master the process of creating complex objects while using advanced possibilities of optimization, dividing and subsequent joining of larger objects, assembly and surface finishing.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance in lectures - 70% min., workshops are mandatory.
