Course detail

FA-VT3Acad. year: 2019/2020

Proportions of the human figure, the colour and the shape. This is the field the student enters in relation with by participation of his own body; this conditions an engaged approach to the choice of colours that express the resulting standpoint for the representation of space. In this case, colour is an adequate coefficient of the author's solution of the object/space relationship. The formulation of his own rule of completing the form with colour in the drawing of a figure. Human figure is for the student the canon of proportion, however by its richness of shapes it initiates, at the same time, considerations about a programmed use of colours. The method thus developed leads the student to the reasoning how to work with colours meaningfully and with view to the need of defending the result, since architecture is an applied art which has to serve to the defined needs of the client.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student begins to be able to connect colour with significance. Colour becomes the means of not only expressing the seen, but also attaining the abstraction, i.e. by illustrating the thought, the student concentrates his activity to the implementation of the artefact which, in the field of architecture, will most probably be a building.

For mastering the use of colouring, it is indispensable to have good knowledge of the basics of colouring, taught in the previous year. Exceptions, see year I.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The evaluation of works is preceeded by individual consultations, either requested by the student, or initiated by the teacher, in case of the work's serious divergence from the assignment, or difficulties deriving from unawereness, unskilfulness, lack of concentration, etc. The result of the assignment is appraised verbally on submission. The resulting collection of works is classified after the completion of the semester. Evaluated is the work's level, its profile, whether the chronologically arranged collection has a rising quality, how the student has fulfiled the requirements of the individual assignments, to what extent, i.e. if the work is a fragment, or a whole. Technical skill and inventivenessare of the authorial solution are also taken into account. Not meeting the individual requirements
leads to reduced number of classification points.

Gaining confidence in using the means of creative arts, such as. e.g. colour.Experience of working with material and tools, and additional knowledge, reduce the student's scruple about working with colour. On the contrary, it strengthens the sense of responsability for the colour solution, without unified approach to colours. It opens the way towards original authorial work.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Classes are conducted in the studio in the presence of the teacher. The student reacts on the assigned tasks and comments. The character of teaching requires the student's attendance in the time defined by schedule. Attendance is monitored, as well as the result and extent of the work. Classes missed due to short absence can be made up for in another group, or by individual consultations. In case of long term absence, the repetition of the year is desirable.
