Cross Cultural Communication

The main content of this subject is to gain relevant knowledge from the field of psychology and sociology which is necessary for effective company. Emphasis is put on interpersonal communication in the corporate environment and the ability to apply them in training activities in order to develop managerial skills corporate practice.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire relevant knowledge from the field of social capability and competence primarily aimed at social interactive patterns. They will have a clear idea of fundamental theoretical models and strategies of human interactions as well as their practical application. In seminars they will consolidate and develop their skills necessary to make the process of social interactions more effective in common situations as well as in demanding situations at work.

Course curriculum

Hlavním cílem předmětu je seznámit student/ky se specifiky interpersonální komunikace v mezinárodním kontextu. Důraz je kladen na získání znalostí z dané oblasti a schopnost aplikace do praxe, jenž rozvine jejich interkulturní kompetenci jako nezbytný předpoklad úspěšného působení v oblasti mezinárodního obchodu.
1. Seznámení s cílem a osnovou předmětu. Vymezení organizačních kritérií a podmínek absolvování předmětu. Zadání témat semestrálních prací a kritérií jejich zpracování.
2. Vymezení klíčových pojmů: kultura a její prvky, interkulturní kompetence a její složky, proces interkulturní komunikace.
3. Interkulturní adaptace: identita jedince, akulturace, kulturní šok a mechanismy jeho úspěšného zvládání.
4. Koncept kultury.
5. Klasické kulturní modely: Hofstede, Trompenaars, Hampdon-Turner.
6. Koncept kulturních standardů dle A. Thomase.
7. Kulturní asimilátor jako prostředek interkulturního tréninku.
8. Vyjednávání v mezinárodním prostředí. AID model pro interakce s odlišnými kulturami.
9. Specifika práce v mezinárodních týmech. GLOBE model.
10. Bariéry interkulturní komunikace. Etnocentrizmus, kulturní relativizmus.
11. Specifika vybraných evropských kultur se zaměřením na oblast mezinárodního obchodu.
12. Specifika vybraných mimoevropských kultur se zaměřením na oblast mezinárodního obchodu.
13. Repetitorium a diskuze k probraným tématům.
