Learning outcomes of the course unit

The output of the first semester rasta design and drawing of the stairwell and ramps; In the second part of the semester designing and drawing the substructure-excavation and foundations. Students will become familiar with in lectures and structures disclosed in the exercises, these structures should manage to design and draw electronically.

Prerequisites

The course completes topics of the subject Building Constructions I. Students are supposed to design of the building project on the basis of given architectural study (plan, section, plan of floor structure, without stairs). Determination of subsoil conditions and static stability of buildings in the respect with subsoil bearing capacity (subject–Soil Mechanics and Foundation Design), determination of thermal and acoustic properties of building materials.

Co-requisites

knowledge of species and soil properties, structural analysis of construction on subsoil (subject-Soil Mechanics and Foundation, statics, concrete structures), thermal-technical and acoustic properties of building materials.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The credit condition is the development of selected drawings: eg. A staircase in an apartment-house details and material variations; foundation structure and foundation structures belt serif; excavations strip foundation and footings.
The exam consists of a written (graphic) and oral. The condition Oral examination conditions in writing (graphic) part.

Course curriculum

1.Staircases – general design requirements. Constructions of staircases.
2.Monolithic and prefabricated staircases, staircases in skeleton systems.
3.Ramps, ladders, rails, elevators.
4.Building site investigation, geotechnical survey, subsoil profiles, failures caused by incorrect foundation design, ground works, laying-out schemes, building setting into the terrain.
5.Shallow and deep foundation structures.
6.Sub-structure – building with/without basement, foundation on the border of the neighbouring buildings
7.Damp-proof courses, waterproofing, protection of buildings against radon.
8.Floor finishings
9.Roofs and roofing systems –classification, roof dewatering. Roof coverings, tinsmith´s products - flashings and gutters.
10.Flat roofs – design principles, single-leaf and double-leaf roofs, composition of roofs.
11.Traditional roof trusses – general design principles, classical systems.
12.Modern roof trusses..
13.Soffits and surface finishes – plasters, paints, coatings, boarding, panelling, tiling.

Work placements

Aims

The subject is focussed on the presentation of selected building constructions to give overall information about the design of these constructions in structural and material variants and about the system of the project documentation.
